RepeaterOne™
Enhancing Network Coverage with RepeaterOne
Reducing the need for additional base stations, repeaters are a cost-effective method of enhancing the coverage area of a wireless network.
Qualcomm's RepeaterOne technology enables wireless service providers to more easily and effectively plan, deploy and operate repeaters in their network.
Network operators and manufacturers interested in employing RepeaterOne technology are encouraged to contact us.
About RepeaterOne
While repeaters can extend or reshape coverage areas, as well as fill in coverage gaps, a repeater is not a noiseless device. The use of a repeater can contribute additional noise into the donor sector receiver. This increased noise raises the noise floor of the base station, thus shrinking the reverse link coverage of the sector. In general, any changes to the link gain between the repeater and the base station will change the repeater coverage area as well as the base station coverage area.
Understanding these issues, Qualcomm has developed RepeaterOne, a unique method for repeater operation and control.
The operational aspects of RepeaterOne are built around the concept of the power controlled repeater. By adding an inexpensive phone module to the repeater, along with the appropriate control circuitry, power control is used to provide a stabilized Quality of Service (QoS ) environment for both the repeater and the donor sector. This same facility simplifies deployment, since the repeater can establish its own reverse link operating point. Plus, the reverse link power control operation inherent in cdmaOne®, CDMA2000® and WCDMA (UMTS ) systems provides feedback for setting and maintaining the reverse link operating point of the repeater.

FAQs
- Does Qualcomm manufacture repeaters?
No. Qualcomm does not produce repeaters. However, we can provide a list of manufacturers producing RepeaterOne repeaters from which network operators may make direct purchases.
- Can I purchase a repeater on my own and extend network coverage to my home where I currently do not have service?
No. A repeater is a broadcast device and therefore requires an over-the-air license to broadcast over a particular frequency.
- I'm interested in employing RepeaterOne technology to manage repeaters in my network. How can I do this?
RepeaterOne technology is available through Qualcomm's licensing and partnership program. Please contact us for more information.
